Croydon’s three-year funding submission to Transport for London (TfL) has been agreed at cabinet and will now be submitted to TfL for their agreement.
This bid to TfL is subject approval in March 2025, and comprises a £23 million grant that will improve road, bus and cycle networks throughout the borough between 2025/26 and 2027/28.
The Local Implementation Plan (LIP) submission includes a wide range of initiatives to improve transport in line with the Mayoral ambition for Croydon to be a cleaner, safer and healthier place.
Measures include new road safety schemes, such as new or improved pavements and pedestrian crossings, as well as improvements to junctions in priority locations.
The bus network will benefit from significant upgrades such as enhancing north-south links, particularly across the town centre, improving the accessibility of bus stops and waiting facilities.
The cycle network will also be reviewed with more cycle training for children and adults to help increase confidence and boost road safety.
The LIP grant is for significant transport improvements and cannot be used for routine maintenance nor renewal of highway assets.
Full details of the plan and proposed projects can be found on the council’s website.
“Residents really value Croydon’s excellent transport links and I want to make sure that everyone is benefitting from them, by improving connections right across our borough.
“Our proposals are about making it quicker, easier and safer for people to travel around by bus, bike and on foot, and improving our roads for all users.
“I also want us to work with partners to ensure these transport upgrades improve the look and feel of our public places, helping to make them safer, more accessible and more attractive for everyone.”
Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon
