It has now been confirmed that a new Health and Wellbeing Centre for Bromley is set to occupy part of the office accommodation being purchased by the council from Direct Line Group.
The latest NHS plan would see the Health and Wellbeing Centre located in the very heart of the town centre, closer to the site of the existing doctor’s surgery it is set to replace, following news that a plan to locate it in the former Adventure Kingdom building on the old Civic Centre site, ultimately proved unviable due to surging inflation related construction costs.
Councillor Colin Smith, Leader of Bromley Council and Co-Chairman of the One Bromley board said, “We are absolutely delighted to have been able to keep this long planned project alive and by working hand in hand with our Health Partners, manage to finally get it across the line when all looked lost.
“It comes as fantastic news for local people, representing as it does, the culmination of years of intense work behind the scenes by the then CCG, NHS and council, all working closely together to bring our shared vision to fruition.
“It serves as a huge testimony as to the ever deepening relationship between our various organisations, the outcome of which will now serve several generations of Bromley residents proudly into the distant future.
“It has been a massive team effort all round and I extend my warmest congratulations to everyone who has played their part, however big or small, in bringing the scheme to completion.”
The proposal to include a new Health and Wellbeing Centre at Churchill Court is set to be formally ratified at this evening’s Executive meeting at the Civic Centre. The leasing of space for the centre would set the relationship between the council and the South East London Integrated Care Board (NHS South East London) into a normal landlord and tenant one, with a lease being granted and the necessary conversion works then taking place.
